The ASCUE Board of Directors is comprised of dedicated individuals who are committed to promoting the use of technology in higher education. The board works to create a platform for the exchange of ideas, resources, and best practices in the field of technology and education. The directors bring a wealth of experience and expertise, having worked in a variety of roles within academia and the technology industry.

Nicole Lipscomb-King - ASCUE photo

Nicole Lipscomb-King, MSIT, MSTS

President

Emory University

Nicole P. Lipscomb-King is the Systems Training Specialist for Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.  She is responsible for developing and coordinating training and education programs in information systems for Winship Clinical Trials Office research staff.  She is an experienced instructional designer and eLearning developer with ten years of experience in higher education environments.  Prior to Emory University, Nicole was Instructional Design Specialist and LMS Administration for the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University, serving both the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.  Along with a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from North Carolina A&T State University, Nicole also holds a MS in Technology Systems from East Carolina University and a BS in Electrical Engineering also from North Carolina A&T State University.

Sali has been serving as Director of Cairn Online and Educational Technology at Cairn University since February 2012. Prior to this position, he served as Manager of Academic Computing for 14 years for the University. He has been attending ASCUE for more than 20 years.

George Warriner III

George Warriner III currently serves as the Digital Learning Systems Administrator at Coastal Carolina University (CCU). Having joined the CCU community in 2011, as a student, he has had the ability to transition to a full time staff member, supporting many of the same faculty that he studied under. He has a strong passion in the effective use and integration of technology into the learning and teaching process. He regularly serves as a peer-reviewer for several Instructional and Academic Technology Journals. He is a proud CCU alum, where he most recently completed his Ed.S. in Instructional Technology, in 2018. George has been a member of the ASCUE Board of Directors since 2019.

HESS Consortium Executive Director

Keith Fowlkes is a veteran higher education chief information officer who has served Saint Mary’s College- Notre Dame, Indiana, University of Virginia at Wise and Centre College. He has also taught in most of the institutions he served in the Business Administration and Computer Science programs.  Keith is the co-founder, executive director and board vice president for the Higher Education Systems & Services Consortium, better known as the HESS Consortium. He also served as vice president of the technology practice for E&I Cooperative Services in Jericho, NY.

Keith is a frequent speaker, consultant and has served as a contributing writer on technology for EDUCAUSE Review, Campus Technology, InformationWeek and the ACUTA Journal.

East Tennessee State University

Christel Young, Ed.D. serves as a clinical instructor and Director of Using Information at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Before coming to ETSU, she was a K-12 educator for 15 years. She obtained a B.A. in Kinesiology from DePauw University and then 20 years later, she obtained her M.Ed. degree from Kennesaw State University in Instructional Technology. In 2021, she fulfilled her promise to her father and obtained her Ed.D. in Instructional Technology with a concentration in Higher Education Administration from the American College of Education. She has serves as the co-President of the Black Faculty and Staff Association at ETSU as well as a member of the General Education Advisory Council and General Education Advisory Council Executive Committee for the university. Her research focuses on the multi-dimensional impact of housing insecurity on higher education student success and equitable education access among populations who are marginalized at the secondary and post-secondary levels.

Coastal Carolina University

Michelle Dzurenda, known by her students as “Dr. D”, lives in Murrells Inlet, SC. She graduated in May 2022 from Coastal Carolina University (CCU) with a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. She has worked in education for 8 years, with four of those years at CCU in the Education and Sustainability departments. Prior to higher education, she was a high school health and physical education teacher, and a softball and basketball coach.

Bylaws and Constitution

ASCUE is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the use of technology in higher education. The bylaws and constitution provide a framework for decision-making and ensure ASCUE operates in a transparent and democratic manner.

2022 ASCUE Event Safety During the Pandemic

As the COVID-19 Global Pandemic continues, ASCUE is both cautiously optimistic and prepared to manage our on-site events with the health, safety, and well-being of our members, presenters, exhibitors, and speakers in mind.

We will continue to monitor and update safety precautions for the ASCUE Conference regularly and follow guidelines in accordance with trusted national resources, state and local public health agencies, Ocean Creek Resort and Conference Center, and off-site event venues.

In all cases, we will continue to assess the risks in the local area and the current status in the United States. There may be some events during which the mask requirement may be waived, but for most cases, these will be the policies and procedures required of our attendees at indoor conference activities and events.

ASCUE reserves the right to modify these policies and procedures at any time given the rapidly changing nature of the current global pandemic.
